NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State baseball pitcher Ethan Blakeney has been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. 

The junior from Virginia Beach, Va., tossed 5.0 scoreless innings to earn a win on the mound. He allowed just four hits while striking out four of the 19 batters he faced. 

Blakeney combined with teammates Thomas Ealey and Yasseel Samboy to throw a shutout in the season opener against Towson, securing a 12-0 victory. 

The Spartans return to action this weekend when they host Manhattan for a four-game series Friday through Sunday.
