NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team dominated the courts, rolling past Hampton 6-1 at the Nat Warren Tennis Center on a breezy Wednesday afternoon.
The Spartans seized control early, sweeping all three doubles matches by identical 7-5 scores to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. Przemek Nikolajuk and Marcin Andrzejczak opened the scoring at No. 2 doubles, while Kasper Kulpa and Luka Cvjetkovic secured the doubles point with a win at No. 3. Boris Lunin and Szymon Janzen completed the sweep at No. 1 doubles.
Norfolk State carried that momentum into singles action, claiming five of six flights en route to the 6-1 victory.
Andrzejczak earned the first singles point for the Spartans with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Hampton's Tshion Fedorov at No. 1, giving NSU a 2-0 advantage. Hampton answered at No. 2 singles to cut the lead to 2-1, but Szymon Malecki responded with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 to restore the two-point cushion.
Dominik Simunovic clinched the match at No. 6 singles in dominant fashion, delivering a 6-0, 6-0 shutout to put Norfolk State ahead 4-1.
The Spartans added two more points to finish the day. Marcin Dójczynski captured the No. 5 flight in a three-set battle, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7, and Janzen rallied at No. 4 singles for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory to close out the match.
