NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State Track & Field Teams look to close out the indoor track & field seasons with a pair of championships at the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, beginning on Sunday Feb. 22, and ending on Monday, Feb. 23.
THE EVENT
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships take place at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. Action begins both days at 8:30 a.m.
The meet will feature all eight track institutions in the MEAC: Norfolk State, Coppin State, Delaware State, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, North Carolina Central, and South Carolina State.

OUTLOOK – NORFOLK STATE MEN
The NSU men's squad seeks a historic fifth consecutive indoor championship, which would mark the second longest MEAC championship streak of wins since Norfolk State won eight consecutive titles from 2006-2013.
Last season, the Spartans collected 202 team points to secure the team title, while Howard finished second with 106 and Coppin State took third with 82 points. Norfolk State Director of Track & Field Programs and recent NSU hall of fame inductee Kenneth Giles was named Most Outstanding Coach of the Meet.
Norfolk State has earned one MEAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade this indoor season when
Jaymes Saunders earned the award following a first place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.52 meters at the HBCU Showcase on Jan. 17. He also took fourth in the high jump (1.96 meters) and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.93.
The Spartans have four top 200 times and marks in the nation this season in the indoor season, led by Saunders in the long jump (7.52 meters). He also holds the 110th best time in the 60 hurdles (7.93) while the NSU 4x400 meter relay team holds a time of 3:11.83 to rank 137th.
In the Triple jump Kristopher Stevens holds the 101st spot with a leap of 15.12 meters, while
Jayden Gordon holds a mark of 14.62 meters.
NSU returns two All-MEAC First Team indoor members from last season, including
Troy McWilliams (Weight Throw) and
Kendrick Winfield (200 meters). The Spartans also bring back three All-MEAC Third team members including
Landon Walker (Pole Vault),
Vincent Bond Jr. (400 meters), and Saunders (Heptathlon).
OUTLOOK – NORFOLK STATE WOMEN
The Norfolk State women's squad will seek its first MEAC Indoor Championship since the 2010 season. NSU earned a runner-up finish in last year's event with 135 points, while Howard claimed its fourth consecutive title with 256 points. North Carolina Central came in third with 60 points.
The Spartans earned one MEAC Track Athlete of the Week award this season, when
Brooklyn Robinson received the prize following a school record finish in the 60-meter hurdles of 8.21 at the Penn Classic. She also placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of 5.76 meters and finished ninth in the 200 meters at 24.63. Robinson's 60-meter hurdles time currently ranks 35th in all of NCAA Division I.
NSU returns a pair of All-MEAC Second Team indoor members from last season, including Robinson (60-meter hurdles) and
Essence Shaw (Pentathlon).
ACADEMIC HONORS
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced its 2026 Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Filed All-Academic selections on Friday morning. MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
