NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State junior
Yuliya Yurkova earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors after leading the Spartans to back-to-back 4-3 victories over both Hampton and East Carolina.
Yurkova posted a 2-0 record at the No. 1 singles position, securing a pair of straight-set victories. She defeated Hampton's Serena Bryan 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, before earning a 6-4, 6-3 win over East Carolina's Ivona Savekova.
In doubles play, Yurkova split her matches. She teamed with
Ines Sabadie for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Hampton's Bryan/Khazieva duo before falling 6-3 to ECU's Auerswald/Calvo pairing.
Norfolk State returns to action on the road this week, traveling to Louisiana for four matches.
