NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State softball team fell to the Longwood Lancers 11-1 in a midweek nonconference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the NSU Softball Field.
Longwood struck early in the opening inning, using a three-run home run to take a 3-0 lead. The Lancers continued to add to their advantage with three more runs over the next two innings, extending the margin to 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third.
Norfolk State broke through in the third inning when Maddy Morris delivered a bases-loaded single to score Maya Johnson, putting the Spartans on the board.
Both teams remained scoreless over the next three innings before Longwood sealed the contest with a five-run seventh inning to secure the 11-1 victory.
Qween Edmonds and Morris each recorded a hit for Norfolk State, while Johnson accounted for the Spartans' lone run.

Norfolk State returns to action on Saturday as the Spartans host Delaware State to open MEAC conference play. The teams will face off in a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m. before concluding the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m. at the NSU Softball Field.
