GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Norfolk State men's tennis team picked up a strong road victory on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Aggies of North Carolina A&T 4-1 at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
North Carolina A&T claimed the early advantage by winning the doubles point. The Aggies took victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to move ahead 1-0. At the top flight, the Norfolk State duo of
Marcin Andrzejczak and Marcin Dójczynski fell 6-2 to Jindrich Brill and Kaua Santos. The Aggies secured the point at No. 2 doubles where
Szymon Malecki and
Dominik Simunovic dropped a 6-4 decision to Mathieu Dussaubat and Niklas Laux.
Norfolk State responded in singles play, sweeping the completed matches to secure the team victory.
At No. 1 singles, Andrzejczak bounced back after dropping the opening set to defeat Santos 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, evening the match at 1-1. Malecki then gave the Spartans the lead with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Brill at No. 2 singles.
The Spartans continued to build momentum in the middle of the lineup.
Szymon Janzen delivered a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, defeating Illia Olefir 6-2, 7-5 to extend the Norfolk State advantage to 3-1.
The match-clinching point came from
Dominik Simunovic at No. 4 singles, who battled through three sets to defeat Niklas Laux 6-1, 6-7, 6-1, securing the 4-1 victory for the Spartans.
Two matches went unfinished after Norfolk State clinched the match.
Kasper Kulpa was leading Gabriel Linovic at No. 5 singles, while Marcin Dójczynski held an advantage over Mathieu Dussaubat at No. 6 singles when play was halted.
