NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State junior
Yuliya Yurkova earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors after leading the Spartans to a pair of wins over Shaw and North Carolina A&T.
Yurkova posted a 2-0 record at the No. 1 singles position, highlighted by a dominant 6-1, 6-1 straight-set victory over Shaw's Tanaka Garikai. She followed with a hard-fought three-set win against N.C. A&T's Hana El Sherif, rallying for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 decision.
In doubles play, Yurkova went a perfect 2-0 alongside partner
Yana Klimchuk. The duo earned a 6-3 victory over Shaw's Serena Teluwo and Camilla Martino before securing a 6-1 win against N.C. A&T's Hana El Sherif and Valeriia Fomenko.
Norfolk State continues a busy stretch this week, hosting Longwood (March 17) and Virginia State (March 18) before hitting the road for matchups at Temple (March 19), Wagner (March 20), and Rider (March 22).
