TAMPA, Fla. – The Norfolk State men's track and field team opened its outdoor season with a strong performance at the USF Alumni Meet, highlighted by multiple top-10 finishes on both the track and in field events
Christopher Basking led the sprint group in the 100 meters, placing eighth in 10.44 seconds.
Jaycob Linzy (10.56) and
Antoinne Smith (10.58) finished 14th and 16th, while
Rahkeem Faison added depth with a time of 10.92. In the 200 meters,
Lavontay Bond led NSU with a 24th-place finish in 21.34 seconds, followed by
Julian Ward (21.56) and
Donovan Terry (21.75).
Kendrick Winfield ran a 47.42 to place 14th in the 400 meters.
Jemmel Green highlighted the distance group with an eighth-place finish in the 1,500 meters (3:57.74), and
Nimporembere Drogba ran 1:55.93 in the 800 meters.
In field events,
Atrell Williams finished eighth in the shot put (16.10 meters) and 19th in the discus (43.53 meters).
Jayshaun Campbell placed 12th in the shot put (14.68 meters) and 17th in the discus (44.10 meters).
Kristopher Stephens led the horizontal jumps, placing seventh in the triple jump (14.80 meters) and 20th in the long jump (6.77 meters). In the high jump,
Chazden Wilson cleared 1.95 meters for eighth place, followed by
Cancelor Watson in 12th (1.90 meters).
Sean Bell finished 14th in the javelin (50.33 meters).
Norfolk State also performed well in relays. The 4x100-meter relay team of Faison, Basking, Ward, and Smith finished fifth in 45.69 seconds, while the 4x400-meter squad of Bond, Terry, Ward, and Winfield placed eighth in 3:11.52.
Norfolk State returns to action March 27 at the Bill Carson Invitational in Greenville, N.C.
