NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State women's tennis standout Yana Klimchuk earned Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week honors following a flawless week across five matches against Longwood, Virginia State, Temple, Wagner and Rider.
Klimchuk posted a perfect 8-0 record between singles and doubles play, helping lead the Spartans through a busy and successful stretch of competition.
In doubles action, Klimchuk went 4-0 across multiple pairings. She opened the week with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles alongside Irina Iurea against Longwood's Alexandra Magia and Hima Fernando before teaming with Kayla Kennedy for a dominant 6-0 win over Virginia State's Sky Carter and Taryn Toomer at the No. 1 spot.
Partnering with Yuliya Yurkova for the remainder of the week, the duo earned a 7-6 (7-5) victory over Wagner's Alexia Estrada and Claudia Lindsey and a 6-1 win against Rider's Elle Catanzarite and Kashish Kant, while also leading Temple's Marianthi Christoforidou and Yasmin Costa 4-3 in an unfinished match.
In singles play, Klimchuk matched that success with a perfect 4-0 record. She earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Longwood's Magia at No. 5 before delivering a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory against Virginia State's Jna Leilani Hereford at the top flight.
Klimchuk continued her strong play with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 win over Wagner's Dariana Vera and closed the week with a 7-5, 6-0 victory against Rider's Chloe Monachelli at No. 4 singles. She also held a 5-3 lead against Temple's Tianni Zhou in an unfinished match.
