Spartans Travel to Mercyhurst for Three-Game Weekend Series

ERIE, Pa. --- The Norfolk State baseball team looks to extend its four-game winning streak this weekend, traveling to Mercyhurst for a three-game series beginning Friday at 3 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
Norfolk State enters the weekend at 8-15 overall and 5-4 in NEC play after defeating VCU 5-3 on Tuesday. The Spartans carry momentum from a three-game sweep of Delaware State last weekend (16-6, 4-3, 11-5).
 
Thomas Ealey leads the team with a .393 batting average, totaling 33 hits, 10 stolen bases, nine RBIs, and two triples while riding an 11-game hitting streak. Justin Journette follows with a .349 average, adding 28 hits, 26 RBIs, 10 home runs, and five doubles. Cameron Mazell ranks third with a .316 average and 25 hits.
 
Ethan Blakeney (2-2) leads the pitching staff with 24 strikeouts and a 5.19 ERA. Parker Hampton (1-1) has recorded 21 strikeouts, while Walker Fuller (0-3) has 20. Yasseel Samboy (2-0) anchors the bullpen with a 3.86 ERA and three saves.
 
ABOUT THE LAKERS
Mercyhurst enters the weekend at 4-14 overall and 4-5 in NEC play following an 8-7 loss to Akron in midweek action.
 
Riley Ames leads the Lakers with a .291 batting average, 16 stolen bases, nine RBIs, three doubles, and two home runs. Jayden Walker owns a .273 average with 15 RBIs and one home run. Dana Williams ranks among the NEC leaders with five home runs this season.
 
Andrew Malec (1-0) leads Mercyhurst with a 5.40 ERA and 19 strikeouts. Nate Vargo (1-1) has 18 strikeouts, while Matthew Delvaux (1-2) has 13.

SERIES HISTORY
Norfolk State holds a 1-2 record all-time against Mercyhurst. The teams met for the first time last season, when the Lakers won the first two games before the Spartans claimed a 12-7 victory in the finale.
