Norfolk State Controls Court in 6-1 Win Over Coppin State

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play in dominant fashion on Saturday, defeating Coppin State 6-1 on day one of the MEAC Tennis Round Up. The Spartans improve to 8-8 overall and 1-0 in conference action with the victory. 

Norfolk State set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Patryk Kowal and Marcin Andrzejczak led the charge with a 6-2 victory, while Marcin Dójczynski and Boris Lunin followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2. Przemek Nikolajuk and Szymon Janzen capped the sweep with a 6-1 decision at the No. 3 spot. 

Carrying momentum into singles play, the Spartans won five of six matches in convincing fashion. Andrzejczak dominated at the top position, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Szymon Malecki added a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2. Janzen was flawless at No. 3, posting a 6-0, 6-0 result, and Dominik Simunovic followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the fourth slot. 

Kasper Kulpa secured another point for Norfolk State at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 decision. Coppin State's lone point came at No. 6, where Flavius Henderson II edged Luka Cvjetkovic in a tightly contested three-set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 10-8.

Norfolk State continues play at the MEAC Tennis Round Up on Sunday as the Spartans will face off against the Bison of Howard University at 8 AM at the ODU Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
