NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team continued its strong start to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a dominant 7-0 sweep over Howard on Sunday morning at the ODU Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 9-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bison fall to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in MEAC action.
Norfolk State claimed the early advantage by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. The duo of Marcin Dójczynski and Boris Lunin earned a 6-4 victory at No. 2, while Przemek Nikolajuk and Szymon Janzen followed with a 6-4 win at No. 3 to clinch the point. Howard picked up the lone doubles victory at the top flight.
The Spartans carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all five completed matches in straight sets while also claiming a three-set victory at the No. 2 position. Marcin Andrzejczak led the way with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1, and Szymon Malecki battled back after dropping the opening set to earn a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
Janzen delivered a flawless performance at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 decision, while Dominik Simunovic dominated at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Kasper Kulpa added another point at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory to round out the sweep.
