Spartans Win Four Singles Matches to Defeat Hampton 4-2

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over cross-bay rival Hampton on Wednesday morning at the Nat Warren Tennis Center. 

With the win, the Spartans improved to 11-8 overall, securing their second victory over Hampton this season. 

Norfolk State fell behind early after dropping the doubles point, but responded in singles play to take control of the match. 

The Spartans delivered a strong showing across the lineup, winning four of six singles matches to clinch the victory. Yuliya Yurkova led the way at the top spot with a hard-fought three-set win, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, while Julia Daroszewska added another point at No. 2 with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) victory. 

Yana Klimchuk battled her way to a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 4 flight, while Elena Martinez Prado secured the decisive fourth point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. 

Hampton picked up its second point at No. 3 singles, as Regina Urbiola fell 3-6, 2-6. 

UP NEXT 

Norfolk State continues its season with a two-match road trip to South Carolina. The Spartans will face Presbyterian on Friday before taking on MEAC opponent South Carolina State on Saturday in Orangeburg.
