Norfolk State Drops 4-1 Decision to Presbyterian

Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team fell to Presbyterian College, 4-1, on Friday afternoon. 

With the loss, the Spartans move to 11-9 overall and will turn their attention to conference play against South Carolina State. 

Presbyterian took an early advantage by claiming the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. The duo of Yuliya Yurkova and Julia Daroszewska held a 5-4 lead at the No. 1 position before the Blue Hose secured the point. 

The Blue Hose extended their lead to 2-0 after a win at No. 2 singles, where Daroszewska retired following a 6-2 first set. 

Norfolk State got on the board at the No. 3 flight as Regina Urbiola earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Luciana Parrilli. 

Presbyterian clinched the match with wins at No. 6 and No. 1 singles. Mary Ellen Longmire defeated Irina Iurea 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6, while Roxana Valdes secured the final point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Yuliya Yurkova at the top spot. 

Prior to the match being decided, Yana Klimchuk led 6-4, 4-2 at the No. 4 position, while Sabina Iurea claimed the first set 6-3 and trailed 5-3 in the second set at No. 5.
