Norfolk State Captures Share of MEAC Regular Season Crown

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team secured a share of the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season championship, finishing 5-1 in league play. The Spartans share the title with Morgan State, who also posted a 5-1 conference mark. 

Norfolk State will enter the 2026 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 2 seed after falling in the tiebreaker to Morgan State. 

The Spartans are led by Regina Urbiola, who holds a 15-3 singles record while competing primarily at the No. 3 position. She has won nine of her last 10 matches and enters postseason play on a four-match winning streak. Urbiola was dominant in MEAC action, finishing a perfect 6-0 against conference opponents. She has also posted a 9-5 doubles record, primarily alongside Angelina Maniawska

Yuliya Yurkova and Yana Klimchuk have each recorded 13 singles victories this season. Yurkova owns a 13-8 mark, including a 9-8 record at the top singles position and a 4-2 showing in MEAC play. She has also been a key contributor in doubles with a 14-5 overall record, including a 7-3 mark paired with Klimchuk. 

Klimchuk has been a steady force in the middle of the lineup, compiling a 13-1 singles record while primarily playing at the No. 4 spot. She went a perfect 5-0 in conference matches (with one unfinished) and added an 11-6 record in doubles play. 

Sabina Iurea and Elena Martinez Prado have also reached double figures in singles wins, posting 12 and 10 victories, respectively. Iurea has been dominant at the No. 6 position with a 12-2 record, while Prado has split time between the No. 4 and No. 5 spots en route to a 10-9 mark. 

Norfolk State opens postseason play against No. 7 seed Coppin State in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 MEAC Women's Tennis Championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Action begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 23 with the championship match scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m.
