GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Norfolk State women's track and field team posted several strong performances across the Aggie Invitational and Virginia Challenge, highlighted by a first-place finish in the steeplechase and a podium showing in the hurdles.
Amira Dailey led the Spartans with a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the line in 11:45.38. She also competed in the 1,500 meters, finishing 17th in 5:01.88.
Brooklyn Robinson delivered a standout performance in the 100-meter hurdles, placing third in both the prelims (13.39) and finals (13.16). Essence Shaw added a 21st-place finish in the prelims with a time of 14.60.
Asiah Wike paced Norfolk State in the 100 meters, finishing 12th in 11.68 during prelims, while Autumn Burrell followed in 17th with a time of 11.80.
In the 200 meters, Wike led the Spartans with a 20th-place finish in 24.45. Burrell placed 21st in 24.49, followed by Robinson (29th, 24.75), Jada Arrington (35th, 24.96) and Nevaeh Lewis (54th, 25.80).
Payton Drumwright led Norfolk State in the 400 meters, finishing 10th in 55.62, while Arrington placed 16th in 56.34. Lewis finished 42nd in 1:02.8.
Drumwright added a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.51, while Trinity Lucas placed 20th in 1:05.84. Moamiky Kenneh placed 11th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.62.
In field events, Shaw recorded a fourth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters. Yowome Ayim added a 17th-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.16 meters. Lexa Hunter led the Spartans in the pole vault, finishing ninth with a clearance of 3.07 meters.
Norfolk State's 4x100-meter relay team of Wike, Robinson, Burrell, and Lewis placed ninth with a time of 45.92. The 4x400-meter relay team of Burrell, Arrington, Kenneh and Drumwright also finished ninth, posting a time of 3:53.07.
At the Virginia Challenge, Abigael Chebet placed 11th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 39:39.76.
Norfolk State will return to action at the Penn Relays, beginning on Thursday, Apr. 23 in Philadelphia, Pa.
