NSU Falls Short at Longwood in Midweek Matchup

FARMVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to Longwood on Tuesday afternoon in its final non-conference game of the regular season.

The Spartans move to 18-14 overall as they enter the final three weeks of MEAC play.

FINAL: LONGWOOD 4 – NORFOLK STATE 3

After a scoreless opening inning, Longwood struck first in the second, using a single up the middle to take a 1-0 lead.

Norfolk State responded in the third inning, as Maddy Morris delivered a two-run single to right field to score Kachelle Refour and Kailey Bryant, giving the Spartans a 2-1 advantage.

The Lancers answered in the bottom half of the inning when Sophia Knock launched a two-run home run to right center, putting Longwood back in front, 3-2.

The Spartans tied the game in the sixth inning behind Morris once again, as she blasted a solo home run over the left field wall to even the score at 3-3.

Longwood regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on a fielder's choice, which brought home the eventual game-winning run.

Morris led the Spartans offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Refour added two hits in a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
