NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women's tennis freshman Yana Klimchuk was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Klimchuk delivered a strong week for the Spartans, posting a 3-0 singles record while competing at the No. 4 position and helping Norfolk State to multiple team victories.
She opened the week with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Hampton's Chelsea Chakanyuka before earning a straight-set victory on the road against South Carolina State's Cassandra Lecoanet, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Klimchuk followed with a strong showing at Presbyterian, leading in her match before it went unfinished, and capped the week with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over George Washington's Alexandra Lindqvist.
In doubles action, Klimchuk added a victory alongside Regina Urbiola, defeating George Washington's Devika Manu and Alexandra Lindqvist 6-3.
Norfolk State returns to the courts on Thursday, April 9, to continue MEAC play against North Carolina Central at the Nat Warren Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
