NORFOLK, Va. --- Norfolk State women's basketball coach
Jermaine Woods announced the signing of Brooklyn Taylor on Friday morning.
Â
"I am thrilled to welcome Brooklyn to our roster," Woods said. "She brings valuable size and athleticism to our backcourt. Her versatility in guarding multiple positions aligns perfectly with our defensive system, while her diligent work ethic seamlessly integrates with the culture we're building."
Â
Taylor, a 6-foot-1 guard from Inglewood, California, played in 30 games last season with two starts. She averaged 3.5 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 51.8% from the field. She scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in the season opener against Stanton.
Â
"I chose Norfolk State because the coaches showed a believe and investment in me," Taylor said. "I want to experience all that HBCU's have to offer."
Â
As a freshman, Taylor appeared in 34 games with one start. She recorded a season-high 12 points against Kansas City and a season-best 10 rebounds against Lincoln (California).
Â
Taylor attended Long Beach Poly High School, where she helped the Jackrabbits reach the second round of the CIF Division I Southern Section playoffs as a senior, averaging 12.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She earned All-Moore League honors twice, including a junior season in which she averaged 15.4 points and 12.5 rebounds.
Â
Norfolk State finished the 2024-25 season with an 18-15 record, marking its fifth consecutive appearance in the MEAC championship game and the program's second WNIT berth. The Spartans also ranked second nationally in field goal percentage defense and third in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
