NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State women's basketball head coach Jermaine Woods announced the addition of Mike Moses to his staff as an assistant coach on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Moses joins the Spartans after serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina Asheville. In that role, he served as the primary contact for recruits, organized official and unofficial visits, prepared opponent scouting reports, coordinated daily practices, and served as the team's offensive coordinator. He also worked closely with guards to develop their skills and overall performance.
 
"I am excited to welcome Mike to our program," Woods said. "His experience in recruiting, player development and basketball mind will add tremendous value to our already talented staff. Mike understands what it takes to build relationships with student-athletes and help them grow both on and off the court. His energy, passion and commitment to excellence make him a great fit for Norfolk State."
 
Before joining UNC Asheville, Moses spent the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Winston-Salem State. He also served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at North Carolina A&T from 2023-24, where he handled recruiting responsibilities, prepared scouting reports, worked with guards on player development and coordinated the program's elite camps.
 
Moses began his collegiate coaching career at Western Kentucky, where he served as an assistant coach and director of recruiting from 2021-23. His coaching experience also includes three seasons as an assistant coach with Fayetteville State's men's basketball program from 2009-12.

At the high school level, Moses led the St. Paul's High School girls' basketball program from 2017-21. He guided the Lady Bulldogs to a 27-1 record and a regular-season championship during the 2019-20 season, along with NCHSAA 2A regional championships in 2020 and 2021. He earned conference and county coach of the year honors three times each. Moses also coached with the Carolina Flames AAU program, including as head coach of the 17U EYBL team.
 
Throughout his coaching career, Moses has worked with numerous players who earned all-conference honors and continued their careers at NCAA Division I programs. His coaching background also includes experience with the Washington Mystics of the WNBA, where he served as a team coordinator and director of instruction for the organization's youth basketball initiatives.

My goal is to serve this program in any way I can and help ensure NSU women's basketball continues to thrive on and off the court."
 
Norfolk State finished the 2025-26 season with an 18-15 record, marking its fifth consecutive appearance in the MEAC championship game and the program's second WNIT berth. The Spartans also ranked second nationally in field goal percentage defense and third in 3-point field goal percentage defense.
