Spartans Expand Athletics Offerings with Women's Flag Football Program

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University Athletics continues to expand opportunities for student-athletes with the addition of women's flag football as the department's newest sponsored sport.

The university will formally announce the program during a press conference on Thursday, June 25, at 12 p.m. in the President's Suite at William "Dick" Price Stadium. Norfolk State will also introduce Darryl Bullock as the inaugural head coach of the Spartans' women's flag football program.

The addition of women's flag football reflects the sport's rapid growth across the country and Norfolk State's commitment to providing new competitive and educational opportunities for women. The Spartans become one of the latest institutions to embrace one of the nation's fastest-growing emerging sports.

"Norfolk State University remains committed to providing innovative opportunities for student-athletes while positioning our athletics program for continued growth and success," said Norfolk State Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Melody Webb. "Women's flag football has experienced tremendous momentum nationally, and we are excited to become part of that movement while offering young women another avenue to compete at the collegiate level."

Bullock will lead the development of the program as it prepares for its inaugural season. Additional details regarding competition schedules, recruiting, roster information, and conference affiliation will be announced at a later date.

The June 25 press conference will feature remarks from university and athletics department leadership, followed by the official introduction of Bullock as the inaugural head coach of Norfolk State's women's flag football program.
