JOPPA, Md. — Norfolk State head baseball coach M.L. Morgan earned the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association Coach of the Year award, the organization announced on Thursday morning.
 
"It is a great honor to be recognized with this award by the Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association," Morgan said. "Having worked as a scout, I have a great level of respect and appreciation for all they do to enhance our game. There were a lot of worthy coaches deserving of this award, so this is a tremendous recognition for our program as we continue to build momentum."
 
The Mid-Atlantic Scouts Association, founded in 1970, consists primarily of scouts from the Mid-Atlantic region. The organization will host its 36th annual MASA Awards Banquet on Nov. 14 at Moutain Brance Golf Resort in Joppa, where it will honor Coach Morgan as its College Coach of the Year.
 
Morgan helped transform the Spartans' baseball program during his first season at the helm, leading Norfolk State to its first 20-win season since 2021. The Spartans won 16 more games than they did the previous season and recorded 16 Northeast Conference victories, more than any season since joining the league. Morgan also finished with the most wins by a first-year head coach in program history.
