NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's bowling program has announced its 2026-27 schedule, a 10-date slate that begins Oct. 3 with the Alumni Green & Gold Scrimmage at the NSU Bowling Center and runs through the MEAC Championships in March.

The season marks the first for head coach Yolanda Roberts, who returns to lead a program she once competed for as a Spartan.

"I bowled in this house, wore this jersey and learned what it meant to represent Norfolk State," Roberts said. "Coming back to lead this program is something I don't take lightly. My job now is to give these young women the same thing this place gave me."

The Spartans will compete in nine events across five states — Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and North Carolina — including two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference gatherings and the league championship.

Norfolk State opens the competitive portion of its season Oct. 17 at the Golden Bear Invite, hosted at Bowlero Berks in Sinking Spring, Pa., then returns to Pennsylvania on Nov. 6 for the Duquesne Invitational at Pines Plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh. The Spartans close out the calendar year Nov. 14 at the CSU Lady Eagle Invitational, hosted by MEAC rival Coppin State at AMF Woodlawn Lanes in Gwynn Oak, Md.

After the semester break, Norfolk State picks back up Jan. 15 at the Northeast Classic at Bowlerama in New Castle, Del., before heading to Doverama in Dover, Del., on Jan. 23 for the DSU Hornet Classic. The MEAC Roundup follows Feb. 5 at Eastern Shore Lanes in Pocomoke City, Md., giving the Spartans an early measuring stick against the conference field.

Norfolk State travels to Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 26 for the Stallings Invitational at Triad Lanes, then wraps the regular season March 13 with a return trip to Bowlerama for the Northeast Roundup.

"This schedule is going to test us early and often," Roberts said. "We're on the road against quality competition almost every week, and that's exactly what we need if we want to be ready in March. I'd rather find out what we're made of in October than in the middle of the MEAC Championships."

The Spartans close the year at the MEAC Championships, beginning March 19. Site and format details will be announced by the conference at a later date. The tournament champion earns the MEAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Bowling Championship.

Roberts said the early months will be about laying a foundation.

"We're building habits first," she said. "The scores take care of themselves when the preparation is right, and that's where our focus is going to be from day one. I want this team to be known for how hard it works before it's known for anything else."
