NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State claimed four MEAC weekly football awards announced Monday, led by freshman quarterback DaJean Golmond, who was named both Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week following the Spartans' 43-20 road win at Chicago State.

Kicker Marco Peery was named Specialist of the Week and offensive lineman Tyler Leinberger was named Offensive Lineman of the Week.

Golmond accounted for 356 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in his first career start. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 265 yards and two scores and added 91 rushing yards and a touchdown.

He threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Rocco Ciocca and connected with Brevin Caldwell for a 55-yard score in the second quarter. He capped a 16-play, 93-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run and broke off a 44-yard rush in the third quarter. His 356 yards of total offense rank 12th in Norfolk State single-game history.

Leinberger graded out at 95 percent with seven knockdowns and did not allow a sack. The line he anchored cleared the way for one of the most productive offensive afternoons in program history.

Norfolk State finished with 623 yards of total offense, the fourth-highest single-game total in the Spartan record book. The Spartans ran for 358 yards and threw for 265, recorded 24 first downs and converted 50 percent of their third-down opportunities. The offense also controlled the game's tempo, holding the ball for 33 minutes, 14 seconds.

Peery contributed in all three phases of the kicking game. He punted five times for 187 yards, a 37.4-yard average with a long of 41, and dropped two inside the 20. He handled seven kickoffs for 409 yards, averaging 58.4 yards, and finished with 596 combined punting and kickoff yards. He also made all five of his extra-point attempts.
