Aaron Corp is in the second year of his second stint as NSU’s quarterbacks coach.
Corp, who held the same post at NSU from 2015-16, returned to the program in 2019. Corp helped mentor All-MEAC quarterback Juwan Carter, who enjoyed one of the finest seasons for a quarterback in NSU history in 2019. Carter earned second-team All-MEAC honors, becoming the Spartans’ first all-conference signal-caller since 2011. Carter set a new Division I NSU record with 23 touchdown passes and led the MEAC with 2,631 passing yards, fourth-most in Spartan history.
With Carter at the helm, the Spartans set school Division I marks for point scored (28.9 ppg in all games and 31.8 in MEAC games) in 2019.
From 2017-18, Corp served as quarterbacks coach at the University of Richmond, his alma mater. In his first season at UR, the Spiders led the CAA in passing, averaging 341 yards per game. UR quarterback Kyle Lauletta was named CAA Offensive Player of the Year, was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award and was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.
With new personnel at QB, the Spiders still ranked second in the CAA in passing in 2018, averaging 264.2 yards per game.
Corp was a key piece of Scott’s first coaching staff at NSU. Corp helped develop former Spartan signal-caller Greg Hankerson into one of the more dangerous offensive players in the MEAC in 2015 and 2016. In just two seasons, Hankerson graduated No. 3 in school history in total offense after leading the Spartans in rushing and passing both years. He owns the No. 4 and No 5 marks in Spartan single-season history in total yardage.
Corp came to NSU after a successful 2014 season as quarterbacks coach under head coach Latrell Scott at Virginia State University. Corp helped VSU finish 10-3 overall en route to the CIAA championship. The Trojans also advanced to the Division II playoffs for the first-time ever, winning a first-round game before falling in the second round. Trojan quarterbacks Tarian Ayres and Niko Johnson combined to pass for 2,270 yards and 15 touchdowns against just five interceptions. The duo also rushed for eight scores under Corp’s guidance.
After an acclaimed high school career in Villa Park, California, that saw him earn numerous prep All-America accolades, Corp spent three seasons as a quarterback at the University of Southern California (2007-09) before transferring to the University of Richmond for his final two years (2010-11). At USC, he redshirted in 2007 before appearing in five games as a freshman in 2008. He played in three games and started once in 2009 before transferring to Richmond.
At UR, Corp started 16 times in his two seasons. He started five times as a junior before sustaining a season-ending injury. He passed for 645 yards and three touchdowns in a little more than four ballgames before he was injured. As a senior in 2011, Corp started every game and passed for 2,682 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 63.7 percent of his passes. He set an NCAA FCS single-game record for completion percentage, completing 31-of-34 (91.2 percent) against Towson.
A 2012 NFL Scouting Combine invitee, Corp had brief pro stints with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins before beginning his coaching career.
Corp graduated with a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Richmond in 2012.
