Jeremy Blunt

  • Title
    Linebacker Coach
Jeremy Blunt enters his first season on the Norfolk State football coaching staff in 2026 as the Spartans' running backs coach after building one of Virginia's premier high school football programs at Phoebus High School. With more than 20 years of coaching experience, Blunt has earned a reputation for developing championship-caliber teams while emphasizing academic achievement, leadership, and character development.

Blunt arrives in Norfolk following a highly successful tenure as head coach at Phoebus High School, where he compiled an impressive 156-23 record and guided the Phantoms to eight Virginia High School League state championships. His teams captured Division 3 state titles in 2021 and 2022 and Division 4 championships in 2023 and 2024, while also winning 10 Peninsula District championships and multiple regional crowns. He was named Peninsula District Coach of the Year eight times, earned Region Coach of the Year honors six times, and was twice recognized as the Virginia High School League State Coach of the Year.

During his tenure, Phoebus established itself as one of the state's dominant defensive programs. The Phantoms finished No. 1 in Virginia in total defense in both 2022 and 2023, allowing just 50 points and 41 points, respectively, over 15-game championship seasons. The program also produced a 51-game winning streak, which ranked among the longest active streaks in the nation.

In addition to serving as head coach, Blunt coached multiple position groups and coordinated all aspects of the program, including recruiting, game planning, player development, fundraising, and academic monitoring. He coached running backs, linebackers, and defensive backs throughout his career while also serving as defensive coordinator, consistently producing all-conference and all-state performers and helping numerous student-athletes continue their careers at the collegiate level.

Away from the football field, Blunt has served as a special education teacher at Phoebus High School since 2013, working with Hampton City Schools students while developing individualized education plans and supporting student success in the classroom.

A graduate of Hampton University, Blunt earned a bachelor's degree in history in 2008. He was also a defensive back at St. Augustine College before beginning his coaching career.
