LaRoy Reynolds joins the Norfolk State coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season as the Spartans’ linebackers coach.
Reynolds brings experience as a player, coach, and mentor at the highest levels of the sport.
Learning from some of the most respected figures in football, Reynolds has worked with multiple NFL organizations. He completed the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys, providing special assistance to improve specialized techniques on the defensive side of the ball, leading targeted practice drills, engaging in player meetings, and analyzing game film.
Reynolds also served as a mentor at IMG Academy through the NFL International Player Pathway Program, leading comprehensive instruction for linebackers and defensive linemen.
A tremendous linebacker with a decorated career on the gridiron, Reynolds played in the NFL for nine years, including stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, and New York Jets.
During his time in the NFL, Reynolds served as an NFLPA representative, demonstrating commitment to player advocacy. He received the esteemed Ed Block Courage Award for exemplifying courage, resilience, and sportsmanship.
A standout linebacker and team captain at the University of Virginia, Reynolds earned All-ACC honorable mention accolades while leading the Cavaliers to an appearance in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl. The Norfolk native racked up 90 tackles that season, including 9.5 tackles for loss.
Reynolds earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in African American and African Studies from the University of Virginia in 2013.
