Chanette Hicks enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Norfolk State women’s basketball team in 2025–26. In her first season on staff, Hicks helped guide the Spartans to a historic 30-5 record, a third consecutive MEAC Championship, and the program’s highest-ever NCAA Tournament seeding as a No. 13 seed.
Hicks played a key role in player development during her debut coaching campaign, mentoring four All-MEAC selections, including MEAC Player of the Year Diamond Johnson.
A standout player in her own right, Hicks returned to Norfolk State following a decorated collegiate career. In her lone season with the Spartans, she swept the MEAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors, becoming the first player in program history to earn either award and the first in MEAC history to receive both in the same season.
Hicks was also named BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Year and earned spots on the BOXTOROW HBCU First Team All-America and All-MEAC First Team. Additionally, she was selected to the midseason watch list for the Dawn Staley Award, presented annually to the nation’s top guard.
Before transferring to Norfolk State, Hicks played three seasons at Virginia Tech, where she set the school’s all-time record for career steals, finishing with 288 total steals.
A Norfolk, Va. native, Hicks starred at Maury High School and was ranked the No. 53 overall prospect and a four-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State in 2020.
