Chris Godfrey enters his second season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Norfolk State University in 2025-26. In his first season, Godfrey contributed to the Spartans’ remarkable 30-5 record, securing a third consecutive MEAC Championship and earning the program’s highest-ever NCAA Tournament seeding as a No. 13 seed.

Godfrey also helped coach four All-MEAC selections during his first year on the Spartan sidelines, including MEAC Player of the Year Diamond Johnson.

Godfrey brings over a decade of experience in women’s college basketball coaching, having held roles at multiple institutions including Georgia Southern University, Coastal Bend College, Kilgore College, Eastern Oklahoma State College, Northwest Florida State College, Prairie View A&M University, and Gulf Coast State College.

Before joining Norfolk State, Godfrey served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Georgia Southern, where he helped guide the program to its first 20-plus win season in 20 years and a berth in the WNIT. During his tenure, he also played a key role in coaching Terren Ward to All-Sun Belt First Team honors.

At Gulf Coast State College, Godfrey earned a nomination for the World Exposure Report National Assistant Coach of the Year and coached NJCAA All-American Morgan Robinson-Nwaguwu.

During his season at Prairie View A&M, Godfrey made history by signing the program’s first Power Five transfer in the modern transfer portal era.

Godfrey’s coaching journey also includes helping Northwest Florida State College capture the Panhandle Conference Championship and the FSCAA/Region VIII Tournament Championship. He began his career at Kilgore College, leading the team to the Region XIV Tournament finals, before spending a season at Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Godfrey holds a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University and a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University. He currently resides in Norfolk.
