Trinese Fox returns to Norfolk State after spending the 2022-23 season as an assistant basketball coach for East Tennessee State. While at ETSU, Fox helped the Buccaneers to a 25-10 overall record and helped the Bucs to a post season seed at the WBI Tournament where ETSU finished third after defeating the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Prior to going to East Tennessee State, Fox spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Norfolk State women’s basketball program during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. While at NSU she served as an assistant coach as well as adding the duties of recruiting coordinator during 2021-22.
In her previous time at Norfolk State, Fox made a big impact as she helped the Spartans improve by 12-wins between the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons. The Spartans received their first-ever appearance in the WNIT in 21-22. Fox helped coach Norfolk State to 17-12 record in 21-22 with an 11-3 record in MEAC play, resulting a share of the regular season title.
The Spartans were one of the best defensive teams in the country in 2021-22 as they ranked third in field goal percentage defense (.341), fourth in turnovers forced (22.7), fifth in steals per game (12.3) and sixth in three-point field goal percentage defense (25.6). In addition, Fox recruited and coached Camille Downs, who won first team All-MEAC and MEAC Defensive Player of the Year honors, along with Deja Francis, who was a first team All-MEAC selection as a point guard. Both Downs and Francis went on to be named back-to-back BOXTORRO All-Americans in their sport.
No stranger to the MEAC after a career at South Carolina State, Fox arrived at NSU after several assistant coach stops in and outside the Hampton Roads area.

Fox most recently served as an assistant coach since the start of 2020 for a pair of girls teams in the Boo Williams Summer League in Hampton. Before coming back to the area, she spent one year as an assistant coach at Claflin during the 2018-19 season. She aided in the development of CIAA All-Rookie guard Dashia Jackson and CIAA Defensive Player of the Year Ashley Fields.

Prior to Claflin, she spent two years as an assistant coach at the collegiate level in the 757 area at Christopher Newport. Fox helped lead the team to the 2017 NCAA Final Four as well as a Sweet 16 appearance in 2018. The Captains won the Capital Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships during her first year in 2016-17. Altogether, the program went 54-8 during her two years there, 32-4 in the league.

Fox began her coaching career during the 2013-14 season at Lenoir Community College as an assistant coach. She was also an assistant coach for the varsity girls team at Nansemond River High School in nearby Suffolk for two years from 2014-16. The Warriors won a pair of conference championships before she headed up to CNU.

A four-year member of the S.C. State basketball team, Fox earned third-team All-MEAC honors as a senior in 2012-13. She helped the Bulldogs finish in fourth place in the league that year as part of a 20-win season. She was also a member of the MEAC All-Academic Team.

Fox received a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2013 from South Carolina State.
