Former All-CIAA player Bria Anderson begins her first season as assistant coach with the Norfolk State volleyball program in 2021. She has also served as an intern with the academic enhancement office within the athletics department since January of 2021.

She was a three-year captain and setter for the Virginia State volleyball team from 2017-19. She led the Trojans to a pair of CIAA Northern Division titles and a CIAA Tournament finals appearance in 2018 for the first time in program history.

She was named second-team All-CIAA as a sophomore in 2018 after leading the league in assists and preseason All-CIAA in 2019. Anderson was tabbed to the VaSID Academic All-State Team in 2020, received the Highest Departmental GPA award from Virginia State in 2021, and left VSU third all-time in program history in assists.

As assistant academic advisor within the academic enhancement office, Anderson provides academic advising, counseling and assistance to student-athletes in areas of course selection, registration procedures, degree requirements and career planning. She works with specific students monitoring their progress toward degree and continuing eligibility at the end of each academic semester.

Anderson is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A) and Women Leaders in College Sports. She participated in the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar and Women Leaders Symposium in 2021. She also served as president of the Sport Majors Club at VSU from 2017-2019.

A native of Cumberland, Virginia, Anderson graduated with a bachelor’s in health, physical education and recreation from Virginia State in the spring of 2019 and a master’s in sport management from VSU in the spring of 2021.
