Gina Bissmeyer

    Assistant Volleyball Coach
Gina Bissmeyer will begin her first season as an assistant coach with the Norfolk State volleyball program in 2017. Bissmeyer arrived at NSU after previously serving as the head coach at Oaktree Academy and as a head coach with the Coastal Volleyball Club.
 
In 2011, Bissmeyer took over the program at Oaktree Academy, leading it from a last-place finish her first year to a fourth-place finish in 2012 with a runner-up standing at the Hampton Roads Athletic Conference (HRAC) Championship. Oaktree later won the conference championship in 2014 before finishing third at the Virginia Home School Athletic Association (VHSAA) state tournament.
 
Altogether, she led Oaktree to three straight HRAC Championships from 2014-16. In her last year in ’16, Oaktree finished ninth in the nation at the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Championship.
 
Bissmeyer began assisting with Coastal Volleyball in 2012, serving as the head coach for the last six years with the 13, 14, 16 and 17 Gold teams.
 
She assisted with the Tidewater Volleyball Association (TVA) beginning in 2007 before serving as an assistant coach at Salem High School in 2008. Bissmeyer led Greenbrier Christian Academy in 2009 and ’10 as the head coach, improving the program from 20th to 10th in the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools (TCIS).
 
During that time at Greenbrier Christian, she also coached with the Virginia Beach Volleyball Academy (VBVBA).
 
Bissmeyer began her collegiate career at Fullerton College, playing for one season before competing in professional outdoor tournaments through California, Arizona and Virginia. She became a member of the Women’s Professional Volleyball Association (WPVA) in 1998 and competed in a variety of AVP qualifying tournaments.
 
While competing professionally, she also won the California Beach Volleyball Association’s Cal Cup State Championship in 1999. Most recently, she has competed in USA Volleyball National events and continues to compete occasionally at various tournaments.
 
Bissmeyer and her husband, Curt, have two daughters, Jessie and Jamie.
