Yolanda Roberts

Yolanda Roberts enters her first season as Norfolk State volleyball’s assistant coach in 2022 with previous coaching experience at multiple levels and a decorated playing career at NSU under her belt.

While working as an elementary school teacher, Roberts served locally as the Kempsville High School head volleyball coach from 2018-2022. Additionally, she was an assistant at Beach Elite Volleyball since 2013, creating up-to-date and relevant drills that challenged student athletes while aiding in their development on the court.

Roberts was an assistant coach at Bryant & Stratton College from 2016 to 2017, helping monitor student athletes’ academic progress in addition to her duties as a coach. From 2012 to 2018, she served on the assistant coaching staff of the Bayside varsity team, the high school she had graduated from.

As a player at Norfolk State, Roberts left her mark throughout the program’s record book. Her career totals rank fifth in NSU history in kills (786), third in attacks (2,533), sixth in service aces (136), and eighth in digs (726). She is one of two players in program history to record more than 700 kills and 700 digs.

Roberts led the Spartans in kills her freshman and junior seasons, distinguishing herself as one of the best outside hitters in the conference. She showed off her serving prowess on Sept. 29, 2006 against Winston-Salem State when she recorded 10 service aces in a single match.

Roberts graduated from Norfolk State Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies: Elementary Education in 2010.
