Norfolk State University head football coach
Willie Gillus was presented last Friday night with the President Gerald R. Ford All-American High School Football Coach Award by the All-American Football Foundation at its 63rd Annual Banquet of Champions at the Marriott Hotel in Greensboro, N.C.
The award was given to eight current and former high school coaches in the region. Gillus led Surry County High School in Surry County, Va., to a 53-12 record (.815) in his five years there. He led Surry to the 1998 Virginia Group A Division I title, was the Tri-Rivers District Coach of the Year four times and Region A Coach of the year twice.
The All-American Football Foundation, based in Jackson, Miss., is in its 10th year and holds several such events each year across the country.
