Despite Effort, NSU Falls to N.C. A&T 3-1

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The NSU volleyball team came out strong against North Carolina A&T, but fell short as the Lady Aggies took the match 3-1 on Friday night at the Corbett Sports Center. NC A&T won 31-33, 30-19, 30-17, 30-20.

NSU (5-21, 2-3 MEAC) rallied to win the first game. Down 29-28, a kill by Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) tied the game at 29-all. A Chantel Cherry (Portsmouth, Va.) kill put the Spartans up 30-29 and NSU got the 33-31 win on an attack error by Janae Mitchell.

The Lady Aggies (4-21, 2-2) held NSU at bay in the three games that followed to take the match.

Four Lady Aggies had kills in double figures. Aundia Gray led the way with 17 kills, while Krystal Cooper had 16, Brenden Chatman had 13, and Avignon Williams had 10. Chatman had a triple double (43 assists, 12 digs) and hit .545 for the match.

Cherry led NSU with 14 kills and 12 digs. Heather Quinn (Conyers, Ga.) hit .308 with 10 kills and two blocks (one solo). Honore hit .235 with six kills, 30 assists, and 12 digs. Five Spartans had double-digit digs, including Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.) who had 15.

The Spartans return home for a non-conference match against North Carolina Central at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
