NORFOLK, Va. — Anielle DaSilva and Shari Mathews each had double-doubles in kills and digs as the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central defeated the Norfolk State volleyball team 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-25) on Saturday afternoon at Echols Hall.
DaSilva had 13 kills and 10 digs, while Matthews contributed 12 kills, team-highs in digs (20) and service aces (5).
NCCU (17-10) jumped out to early leads in the first two games, but the Spartans came out hot in game 3. NSU took a 19-9 lead on an attack error by Rachel Lloyd, but a kill by Matthews tied the game at 22-all and the Lady Eagles did not look back.
Kristan Fields had a game-high 37 assists and two aces and Naima Stennett had seven kills, two aces, and 1.5 blocks.
NSU (5-22) was lead by
Chantel Cherry (Portsmouth, Va.) who had seven kills and added 10 digs and 1.5 blocks.
Solange Honore (San Fernando, Trinidad) recorded a double-double of her own with 22 assists and a match-high 22 digs.
Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.), Vanessa Faircloth (Lumbeton, N.C.) and
Shardonay Blueford (Chesapeake, Va.) each had six kills. Roberts had 11 digs and Blueford had 15.
