NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University took three of the five weekly Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference football honors as announced Monday by the league. Quarterback Casey Hansen (Norco, Calif.) was named Offensive Player of the Week, receiver Jeremy Wicker (Quantico, Va.) was selected Rookie of the Week and Jason Kressen (Suffolk, Va.) was named Offensive Lineman of the Week following the Spartans' 50-20 win over North Carolina A&T on Thursday.
Hansen completed 19 of 27 passes for career highs of 351 yards and four touchdowns to help NSU (3-1 overall) to its first-ever 2-0 MEAC start. His passing yardage and TD totals are the most for a MEAC quarterback this season. He connected with six different receivers and threw scoring strikes to three players. Hansen, who did not throw an interception, did not play the final 14 minutes of the game after NSU extended its lead to 30 points.
Wicker, a redshirt freshman, was the biggest recipient of Hansen's big day. He hauled in a career-high five passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. They were the first two scores of Wicker's career, covering 19 and 69 yards. He also had receptions of 42 and 37 yards on non-scoring plays.
Kressen, NSU's starting right guard, graded out as NSU's top lineman at 91 percent on his assignments. Led by solid line play, the Spartans racked up 532 yards of total offense, the most in the MEAC this season, and held the ball for nearly 38 minutes. Kressen is the second NSU lineman to earn weekly honors this season, following center Brandon Nance (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who was honored following the Virginia State game.
