Spartans Visit Morgan State With MEAC Hopes Alive

NSU Looks to Rebound from 1st MEAC Loss at MSU

Pete Adrian and the Spartans Face a Tough Morgan Squad on Saturday
Game Notes

NORFOLK, Va.
– The Norfolk State football team travels to Baltimore, Md., to face Morgan State University this Saturday at 4 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.

For the Spartans, the mission is simple: wins at Morgan State this week and at Delaware State on Nov. 10 would give NSU (6-2 overall, 5-1 MEAC) its first-ever Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS, formerly I-AA) berth. DSU (7-1, 6-0) remains in first place, a game ahead of NSU.

The Spartans will look first to rebound from a 17-10 loss to Howard last Saturday which snapped a five-game winning streak. Morgan State (5-4, 4-2) enters this week's contest after a 14-12 win over Florida A&M last week. The Bears boast FCS's top-ranked defense, which allows just 261.3 yards per game, and the MEAC's top rusher in Chad Simpson (117.3 ypg).

NSU will counter with the MEAC's third-best scoring offense (25.5 ppg). The unit is led by running back Daryl Jones (Richmond, Va.), who is fourth in the MEAC, averaging 102.8 ypg, and quarterback Casey Hansen (Norco, Calif.), who is second in the conference with his 199.2 ypg.

Morgan leads the all-time series with NSU 11-10, including a 29-20 win in Norfolk last season.

The game can be heard live on WNSB Hot 91.1 FM in the Hampton Roads area.
