LANDOVER, Md. – Sophomore
Brett Dodd (San Antonio, Texas) broke the indoor school record in the pole vault for the second consecutive week on Saturday at the Maryland Invitational at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
Dodd cleared a personal-best 14-1 ¼ to take fifth place in the pole vault. A week earlier, he cleared 13-11 ¾ to break the school record at Virginia Tech.
The Spartans' lone first-place finish Saturday came via sophomore Randy Lee (Washington, D.C.), who won the 200 meters in 22.72 seconds. Several other Spartans earned top-five finishes. Sophomore Avery Wilson (Portsmouth, Va.) turned in his best performance of the year in the 60-meter hurdles, coming in third in 7.96 seconds. Seniors Troy Wilkerson (Norfolk, Va.) and Raymond Brown (Richmond, Va.) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters.
Senior Dominic Luka (Marietta, N.Y.) led the distance runners with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000 meters (8:48.72).
Sophomore Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) led the field athletes with two top-five finishes. He was second in the high jump (6-8 ¾) and fourth in the long jump (22-8 ½) despite not competing in the finals. Senior Marlon Powells (Hyattsville, Md.) took second in the shot put (48-4 ½).
The Spartans compete next Friday and Saturday at the Penn State Open in State College, Pa.
