GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Breanna Allums (Channelview, Tex.) had a double-double of 18 kills and 11 digs and hit .316 as the Norfolk State volleyball team completed the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference season sweep of North Carolina A&T with a 3-1 win on Friday night at the Corbett Sports Center. NSU (6-19, 3-3 MEAC) won 24-26, 25-12, 25-11, 25-22.
A&T (3-19, 0-4) took the first set after limiting the Spartans to just eight kills and a .000 hitting percentage. With a 24-23 lead in favor of NSU, a ball handling error by Angie Clewis (Glen Heights, Tex.) tied it at 24-all. An error by Allums gave the Lady Aggies a 25-24 lead and Jarnae Mitchell followed with a service ace to seal the win.
The Spartans came out with momentum in the second set and kept it up in the final two to take the match. NSU hit .417 with 13 kills in set 2 and .533 with 18 kills in the third set.
For A&T, Mitchell led her team with a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs. Tiffany Mellette had a match-high 16 digs and added seven kills and Jordan Gray led all players with 30 assists.
Elayne Greer (Bakersfield, Calif.) had 10 kills, two aces and two digs for NSU. Jourdan Ellison (Houston, Tex.) had 15 digs, while Shardonay Blueford (Chesapeake, Va.) had 13 digs, nine kills and hit .381 for the match.
The Spartans remain in the Tar Heel state for a 3 p.m. matchup with Winston-Salem State on Sunday.
