NSU Falls 3-0 to Bethune-Cookman

Nicole Kessner Had a Team-High 26 Assists Against B-CU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Despite Breanna Allums' (Channelview, Tex.) match-high 13 kills, the Norfolk State volleyball team fell 3-0 to Bethune-Cookman in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match on Monday night at Moore Gymnasium. The Lady Wildcats won 25-18, 25-22, 25-23.

B-CU (5-10, 2-0 MEAC) got on the board first in set 1, but NSU (3-18, 1-2) kept it close most of the way. A kill by Danielle Goodman put the Lady Wildcats up 21-16 and they went on a 4-2 run to take the set.

It was even closer in the second and third sets, but NSU could not put B-CU away. As a team, the Lady Wildcats hit .292 with 39 kills, 31 assists, eight service aces and 17 digs. The Spartans did better in several categories, tallying 41 kills, 33 assists and 27 digs, but hit .207 as a team.

Goodman led B-CU with 11 kills and had three digs, while Daryl Rodriguez had a match-high 29 assists.

For NSU, Angie Clewis (Glen Heights, Tex.) had eight kills and Jourdan Ellison (Houston, Tex.) had 10 digs. Nicole Kessner (Blacksburg, Va.) had 26 assists.

The Spartans host South Carolina State at 7 p.m. on Friday at Echols Hall.
