Men's Track Tunes up for MEAC at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.
– Several Norfolk State men's track athletes set personal bests as the Spartans had their final tune-up before next week's MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday at the CNU Vince Brown Invitational.

Senior Brandon Harris (Norfolk, Va.) ran a personal-best time of 6.37 seconds to take second place in the 55-meter dash.

Freshman Tyrell Moon (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore Carlton Phipps (Lynchburg, Va.) also ran PRs for the Spartan men in their respective races. Moon finished second in the 400 meters in a time of 49.84 seconds. Phipps ran 1:57.05 to place third in the 800 meters.

Other second-place running finishes were turned in by Troy Wilkerson (Norfolk, Va.) in the 200 and Avery Wilson (Portsmouth, Va.) in the 55-meter hurdles.

Reginald Sands (Nassau, Bahamas) paced the Spartans in the field events. He threw an indoor personal-best 49 feet, ¼ inch in the shot put to place third.

The Spartan men and women take part in the 2008 MEAC Indoor Championship on Feb. 15-16 in Landover, Md. The NSU men are looking for their third straight conference indoor title.
