Wildcats Rally for 4-3 Win over Men's Tennis

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
– The Norfolk State men's tennis team dropped to 2-6 overall, 0-2 in MEAC play with a tight 4-3 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Friday at the City Island Tennis Complex.

The Spartans held a 1-0 lead after winning at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Miroslav Vlcek (Vyskov, Czech Republic) and Petr Krakora (Brno, Czech Republic) topped Bethune Cookman's Emil Vassilev and Stefan James 8-4 at No. 1. At No. 2, Vassil Zahariev (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Bogdan Yordanov (Sofia, Bulgaria) defeated Cristian Cruz and Yannick Jackson 8-6 at No. 2.

Vlcek and Krakora both won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, leaving the Spartans one singles win away from clinching the match. But the Wildcats (3-8, 1-1 MEAC) won Nos. 3-6 singles to earn the 4-3 win. The deciding match came at No. 3 singles, where James edged Roman Del Castillo (Lima, Peru) 7-5, 6-4.

NSU takes on defending MEAC champion South Carolina State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Orangeburg, S.C.
