Woods, Hall, Vinston Among Standouts for NSU Track at Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. - Norfolk State sophomore Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) recorded his third NCAA Regional qualifying mark in a span of two outdoor meets on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays, finishing third in the high jump (6-10 3/4).

Woods, who qualified for the regional in the long and triple jumps last Saturday at Wake Forest, is now qualified in all three jumping events.

Also faring well in the high jump was junior Raphael Hall (Chesapeake, Va.). Hall, a former state high school high jump champion who has played the last two seasons for the Spartans' basketball team, placed fifth (6-8 3/4) in that event in his first track meet as a Spartan.

Sophomore Corey Vinston (Hampton, Va.) attained the Spartans' only first-place finish at the Raleigh meet, winning the triple jump (48-10).

Also in the field events, Reginald Sands (Nassau, Bahamas) threw a personal-best 49-11 1/4 to finish 13th in the shot put.

Troy Wilkerson (Norfolk, Va.) and Raymond Brown (Richmond, Va.) ran season-best times in the 400 meters. Wilkerson ran 47.54 seconds to place 11th, and Brown ran a personal-best time of 47.66 to take 12th.

The Spartans participate at North Carolina A&T next weekend.
