Men's Tennis Downs N.C. Central 7-0 for First Win of Season

Spartans Drop Just 1 Game in 3 Doubles Matches

NORFOLK, Va.
- The Norfolk State men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2008 season on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center at Old Dominion, topping North Carolina Central 7-0.

The Spartans (1-3) dropped just one game in the three doubles matches, and won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.

The doubles teams of Miroslav Vlcek (Vyskov, Czech Republic) and Petr Krakora (Brno, Czech Republic), Vassil Zahariev (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Bogdan Yordanov (Sofia, Bulgaria), and Roman Del Castillo (Lima, Peru) and Keenan Ruff (Norfolk, Va.) each won their matches. The latter two pairs won their matches 8-0.

Vlcek (No. 1), Del Castillo (No. 4) and Yordanov (No. 5) all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Ruff and Zahariev also won in straight sets, while Krakora had to go to win a tir-breaker to decide the third set in his victory.

The Spartans return to action next Friday when they host James Madison at 2:30 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Complex.
