NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University assistant men's basketball coach Lonnie Blow Jr. has resigned his position to become the head coach at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C.
Blow spent two seasons as an assistant at NSU. He helped the Spartans to just their second Division I winning record (16-15) this past season, which ended with a loss in the MEAC Tournament semifinals.
At NSU, Blow was instrumental in developing post players, scouting opponents, recruiting and handling administrative tasks.
“I want to thank coach Blow for helping us point the program in right direction,” NSU head men's basketball coach Anthony Evans said. “I'm happy for him to have the opportunity to be the head coach at St. Augustine's. He's worked very hard and he deserves this.”
Blow, a staple in the Norfolk area, was head boys basketball coach at nearby Granby High School from 1995-2005. Blow's teams accumulated a 184-61 record. In 2000, Blow led the Comets to a 26-4 record and the state Group AAA championship. He was named the state Coach of the Year that season.
Blow was a two-time Division III All-American and All-South Atlantic Region selection at Virginia Wesleyan, where he played from 1979-82.
