NORFOLK, Va. — Sophomore outfielder Brianeisha Eure (Virginia Beach, Va.) and freshman first baseman Jeanette Sauceda (Ontario, Calif.) were named to the 2008 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State Softball Second Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Eure, the Spartans' only All-MEAC pick this year, hit .324 with five doubles, a triple and 13 RBI in 2007. She led the team with 55 hits and 170 at-bats and tied for the team lead in runs scored (35). During NSU's MEAC Tournament run, she hit .318 with eight runs, two walks and a double in the Spartans' six tournament games before being named to the All-Tournament team.
Sauceda hit .274 and became NSU's all-time single season record holder with a team-leading 17 doubles. She is on track to break Ursel Bunton's (1984-87) career record of 26 career doubles in just two years. Sauceda led the team with 225 putouts, 75 total bases, and 37 RBI. The Spartans' Rookie of the Year also tallied three home runs, two triples, and had a .457 slugging percentage.
Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher and head coach Scot Thomas were named Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. Ashli Breau of George Mason was received Player of the Year honors, while Radford's Shannon Keefe took home the Rookie of the Year award.
