NSU Volleyball Drops 3 Matches at DSU Invitational

DOVER, Del.
— The Norfolk State volleyball team went 0-3 this weekend at the Delaware State Hornet Invitational at Memorial Hall. On Friday, the NSU (2-16) fell 3-2 (20-25, 25-15, 25-23, 13-25, 12-15) to Wagner and 3-1 (27-25, 12-25, 20-25, 22-25) to host DSU. The Spartans then fell 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-12) to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday morning.

Wagner (2-8) took the first set to have a 1-0 lead in the match, but NSU won the next two sets to go up 2-1. The Seahawks came out prepared in the fourth set and dominated the Spartans 25-13 for the win. The deciding set was back-and-forth, but Wagner held on for the win.

In the DSU (5-7) match, NSU won the first set before dropping the next three sets. With the score tied 25-all in the first set, Aurelia Isham (Lancaster, Tex.) had a kill and the Spartans got the win on a DSU attack error.

NSU played Fairleigh Dickenson (10-7) close, but the Knights were able to hold off the Spartans to take the match 3-0.

Yolanda Roberts (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Spartan offense in each of the three matches. She tallied 12 kills against both Wagner and DSU and had five kills against FDU. Breanna Allums (Channelview, Tex.) had 11 kills against Wagner, while Elayne Greer (Bakersfield, Calif.) had 10 kills against DSU. Jourdan Ellison (Houston, Tex.) tallied 30 digs for the weekend.

The Spartans open MEAC play on Friday with a 7 p.m. match against North Carolina A&T at Echols Hall.
