Spartan Women Travel to Hampton, Howard

NORFOLK, Va. — The women's basketball team hits the road this weekend in search of its first win of the season. The Spartans (0-16, 0-6 MEAC) take on Hampton in the Battle of the Bay at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the HU Convocation Center. They then travel to the nation's capital to play the Lady Bison of Howard University. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. on Monday.

Hampton leads the all-time series with Norfolk State 39-35. The Lady Pirates swept the Spartans last season, winning 68-51 on Feb. 2 at Echols Hall and 82-61 on March 1 at the Convocation Center. NSU's last win over Hampton was a 70-66 win on Dec. 2, 2006 at Echols Hall. The last time NSU was victorious at the Convocation Center was on Jan. 31, 1995, when the Spartans beat the Lady Pirates 72-55.

Howard leads the all-time series with NSU 20-9. The teams split last season's meetings with each team winning at home. The Spartans earned their only MEAC win of the season with a 94-88 overtime defeat of the Lady Bison on Feb. 4 at Echols Hall. Howard returned the favor with a 93-84 victory on March 3 at the Burr. NSU has not beaten Howard on the road since an 82-79 win on Jan. 22, 2005.
