Final Results

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
– NSU first-year sophomore Josef Tessema (Springfield, Va.) won the mile in a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 14.91 seconds to highlight the Spartans' efforts on Saturday at the Penn State National track meet.

Tessema's time was nearly five seconds better than his previous PR (4:19.15) and is the fastest mark in the MEAC this season.

Three Spartans ran indoor personal bests in the 400 meters. First-year sophomore Thomas Speller (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Keith Nkrumah (Brooklyn, N.Y.) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the 400. Speller won his heat in 48.75 seconds, while Nkrumah ran a time of 49.24. In the invitational section, Tyrell Moon (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed fifth in 48.65 seconds.

Those three, along with freshman Darryl Brickhouse (Suffolk, Va.), helped the Spartans' 4x400 relay team place second in the invitational section in 3:14.26.

Speller later ran the fastest 200-meter time for NSU this season in the 200 meters, placing seventh in 21.98 seconds.

Senior Dominic Luka (Marietta, N.Y.) had NSU's other top-three finish on Saturday, finishing third in the 800 meters in a season-best time of 1:54.01.

Among the Spartans' field athletes, long jumpers Corey Vinston (Hampton, Va.) and Marlon Woods (Norfolk, Va.) took second and third place, respectively, on Friday night.

Vinston's best jump was 25 feet, ¾ inch. He was the highest collegiate finisher, and was second only to former Akron All-American Cadeau Kelly (25-4 ½). Woods was just behind Vinston, with a best jump of 24-11. Both Spartans are already qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship at the University of Arkansas in March.

In other action Friday, sophomore hurdler Aramis Massenburg (Ettrick, Va.) finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.98 seconds.
